What is Voices Behind the Walls?

* 11.17.08 - News Section Updated *

Voices Behind the Walls was started as a website where men and women from all races and religions would share their life experiences with the youth of today. These men and women, some on death row, others serving life in prison, decided to make a commitment to the youth of today and to their various communities to help stem the violence which ends young lives at an alarming rate. These individuals do this out of a hope that their story may reach and change just one life or make one person question a poor decision that they are about to make. There is no monetary compensation nor is there any deal to help with the reduction of sentences. Their actions are done out of kindness, and a hope for a better future, for all of humanity. The letters received are screened to allow only those positive voices on the website.  Many letters have been received; however only those letters which personify the change that has taken place within one’s soul will make it to the website. Voices Behind the Walls and the individuals involved in the project are honored to have these men and women write their stories and admire the risk they take to their personal safety to spread the words of peace, unity and change. These men and women may have lost their freedom, but that does not mean they have lost their souls. We, Voices Behind the Walls, believe that from inside the walls they can help rebuild the communities and change the world. We must understand and remember the past, so we may not make those same mistakes in the future.

“Working together we can change the world”
